Departures wins Oscar best Foreign Film starring Ryoko Hirosue
This story happened a few months ago but just realized the movie, Departures, won the Oscar’s 2009 Best Foreign Film. Departures is a movie directed by Yojiro Takita is about a newly unemployed ceilist accidently taking a job preparing the dead for the funerals. The cast includes Masahiro Motoki, Tsutomu Yamazaki and Ryoko Hirosue. It was the first time since 1955 that a Japanese film has won the Best Foreign language Film Oscar. The movie swept all of Japanese Academy Awards for best picture and director.
